Hi, my name is Libby Davidson and I am a certified Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Clinical Aromatherapist, Certified Gluten-Free Practitioner, Restorative Wellness Practitioner, Epidemic Answers Health Coach, Psych-K® Practitioner, Access BARS® practitioner and transformational health coach.
My digestive problems were so much a part of my ‘normal’ when I was growing up that I never really questioned them. Even though I ate what I thought was a reasonably healthy diet, the odds were stacked against me in relation to my digestive health – I’d had my tonsils removed in my late teens, both my gallbladder and part of my pancreas removed in my early 20’s and I’d had tons of antibiotics in my childhood years due to recurrent throat infections.
However it was only after the birth of my two sons that I discovered the immense importance of having a healthy and well functioning digestive system and recognised the incredible healing power of food. Both of my children were born with significant food intolerances and gut issues that also impacted on their behaviour, mood, cognition and learning. It was also at this point that I had a reality check about how dysfunctional my own digestive system was as well.
After being let down by conventional medicine I took matters into my own hands and studied with the Nutritional Therapy Association Australia in order to support my children’s health from the ground up, establishing a healthy gut microbiome and restoring normal digestive function. From this point their bodies and minds flourished, and I got my own health back on track in the process!
After experiencing the life altering impacts of gut dysfunction first hand, and seeing just how many people live with embarrassing and debilitating digestive problems on a daily basis, I knew that this would become the focus of my life’s work.
My 3 and 6 month gut health recovery programs include a Complete microbiome mapping which involves a simple, at home stool collection that is sent to the lab to analyse what’s going on “in there”. It investigates the presence of pathogens such as parasites, worms and bacteria (both the good and the not so good); and also gives valuable insights into how well your digestive system is working, whether it needs any support to breakdown and absorb your food, and whether you have gut inflammation. All really critical factors when working out what’s contributing to your symptoms and what support you need.
Food sensitivity testing is also done via a blood sample, to test up to 200 different foods. This can be a fantastic addition to microbiome mapping to assist in identifying and eliminating foods that are causing inflammation for you while the gut repair work is going on. It’s normal to just think of junk foods as being inflammatory, but this is not the whole story. Yes, junk foods do cause inflammation, but you can also be reacting to what would typically be classified as healthy foods such as broccoli, sweet potato, beef, rice etc. It can be anything, which makes it tricky to pin down via traditional elimination diets.
