Leanne Scott

My name is Leanne Scott and I am a certified Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTA), ADAPT Functional Practitioner, IIN Health Coach and a Certified Gluten Practitioner trained by Dr. Tom O'Bryan. I am based in Queensland where I run a busy practice - Pure Core Nourishment Pty Ltd.

My story and my family's story is now an increasingly common one but with perhaps a few unique differences Id like to share with you. I am now 52 years old and the only member of my family who has not developed an autoimmune condition. I am not adopted. The only difference has been my diet.

Since I was a child I have always been aware that many modern foods made me sick. Instinctively I avoided these foods and by my late teens I realized there was a pattern.

Whole, real foods as they are derived from nature allowed to thrive but the more processed the food, the more my health struggled.  Naturally as I avoided these foods I craved others - animal proteins, fats, nuts and vegetables. Growing up this way in the late 80's/90's was difficult - everyone including my family thought my diet was abnormal and I was destined for a heart attack due to my consumption of fats. However I also never had to concern myself with my weight, meal portions or worrying about my next meal as I was never hungry between meals. Everyone use to say "Leanne you never eat!" But it was actually that I did not need to snack every two hours like everyone else.

By my mid 30's my family’s health began to unravel. Autoimmune disease began to spread like wildfire..Hashimoto's, Lupus, Celiac disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis. This inspired me to begin my own research into the link between diet and disease as it was the only factor in my life that was different from my family’s. During my research I happened across a little book that changed my life: “Primal Body Primal Mind” by Nora Gedgaudas. I actually thought it was the story of my life. It seemed to explain every physical and health experience my family and I were undergoing. So inspired, I reached out to Nora, writing her a letter to simply thank her for her book and the profound impact it had in my life. Quite unexpectedly she wrote back and we began to correspond. One day she said to me that since I was spending so much time researching this, I ought to put it all to good use and with that she recommended my educational pathway into nutrition, which I've followed to this day.

Nora had recommended the Nutritional Therapy Associations' Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner program (FNTP).

It was one of the first foundational educational programs she undertook and she now sits on their Advisory Board. Although other programs such as IIN sparked my passion for nutrition, it was the Nutritional Therapy Association (NTA) which truly unravelled the science of nutrition and human physiology and the under workings of dysfunction as a result of the modern life.

Based on the teachings of Dr. Weston A. Price, Dr. Francis Pottenger and a philosophy based on Ancestral Health, it was such a profound experience for me, that thanks to Nora's guidance and inspiration, I committed myself to bringing the program here to Australia. As of March 2015 we launched our first inaugural class, bringing a new paradigm of Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners to Australia.

As an organization, the NTA's philosophy is:

We believe in restoring properly prepared, nutrient-dense whole foods to the human diet through education.

A fundamental belief in bio-individuality; our genetic and environmental makeup can determine our unique nutritional needs. We train our FNTP’s to support the WHOLE BEING and delve into total body burden. Our  practitioners explore not only the anatomy and physiology of nutrition, but stress, sleep, movement, environmental factors, and emotional wellness. We also provide effective client tools to support culinary wellness.

We also believe that our bodies have an innate intelligence that will tell us what our body needs.

Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners identify and restore physiological dysfunction by connecting with that innate intelligence through functional based lingual-neural evaluation of body systems to address the nutritional needs of their clients, assess their biochemical individuality and make tailored diet and lifestyle recommendations.

NTA has now trained over 6000 practitioners worldwide from a variety of backgrounds - physicians, naturopaths, chiropractors, dieticians, and anyone with a passion for nutrition.

Our organisation has spawned many authors as well as Nora Gedgaudas, such as Mickey Trescott -bestselling author of Autoimmune Paleo, Margaret Floyd author of Eat Naked and Luke Hines bestselling author and Australian co host of House of Health.

As a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP) , my philosophy is based on the belief that optimal health is based on working with the innate wisdom of the body to restore function and bring the body back into balance.

True wellness cannot be achieved through a reductionist view of addressing only symptoms and individual anatomical systems, but understanding that every function of the body is intimately linked.

Listening to the messages our bodies give us and addressing the core foundations of our health restores spirit and brings the body back to wellness.

Our service supports clients throughout Australia and Internationally. We restore normal function to the body and bio-individualise Ancestral-based diets according to what we discover through functional testing (labs and Lingual-Neural) and Mind-Body Support

Many clients coming to me have already embarked on a overhauling their diet in some way - many times already moving back towards an Ancestral based diet.  They come because although they do feel immensely improved, often there may be a few residual persisting issues that they cannot seem to get on top of. So we investigate and support the correction of whatever underlying issues we discover.

Our modern lifestyle can often contribute to the creation of food sensitivities, poor production of stomach acid or inability to adequately utilise and absorb fats. Underlying dysfunction which needs to be addressed, supported and corrected. Over time these underlying issues can present as a myriad of seemingly unrelated health complaints - hormonal/ thyroid issues, joint pain, skin complaints, memory problems etc.

My education has equipped me with extensive knowledge in human physiology, functional nutrition, and mind-body support. We are not just blood and bone so in order to truly support optimal health we must support the hearts and minds of our clients as well as their bodies.

Drawing on these skills, I walk with my clients hand in hand to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results. Our goal is to empower our clients to take control of their health and to provide them with the lifelong tools to always know what their bodies need no matter what life throws at them. What we really do is reconnect them to their own innate wisdom and to the incredible power of their bodies.

In addition to my qualifications, I am also certified as a:

  • Certified Fitgenes Practitioner - the science of genetic profiling and Nutrigenomics truly allows us to take back control of our long-term health not just for ourselves, but most importantly for our children.
  • Certified Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist (FDN), Certified Restorative Wellness Practitioner (RWS) - specialisation in functional laboratory testing to identify the underlying causes of depleted health and restore the body's normal function.
  • Inneractive Healing Systems, Metta Testing, Psych K and Theta Healing Facilitator
  • YHA 200 hour Yoga Teacher as well as 300 hr and Yoga Therapy student in training.
  • Certified Meditation Teacher

95% of our internal language and beliefs do not reside under our conscious control but rather our subconsciousness. These signals operate at specific frequencies which drive cellular function or more importantly, dysfunction. We may have the best intentions for optimal health but if deep inside your subconscious believes it's not safe to heal, this overriding language tends to prevail. This is often the fundamental core of restoring optimal health - without it people often find themselves on the rollercoaster between moments health and recurrent unwellness.

I like to think of our Mind Body modalities we provide as the practical application of Quantum Physics and its application is profound for our clients.

Ultimately, why do I do what I do? Here's the fundamental reason. My children - Sam and Lane Scott.

They've been on an Ancestral-based diet since they were 2 and 3 years old. They are now 15 and 16.

We are constantly being told that Sam and Lane are the most nourished children they've come across. Broad wide jaws to fit wisdom teeth, they are never sick beyond the odd sniffle, and without the typical wild hormonal issues many teenagers struggle with. The second most common comment we receive is that they are calm, articulate children that never fight with each other! We are a family that knows only too well that our diet has made all the difference.

We were inspired to do so by our son Sam. At 2 years old we started to lose him. We began to lose eye contact, he developed flat effect and as a baby he had severe digestive and sleep issues. I was a new parent still finding my way and truly didn't comprehend the significance of these warning signs until one day he came to me and in his little voice he said - "Mom, I'm sad all the time and I don't know why".

That rocked me… every doctor I ever took him to told me that he was fine but now I knew that was not the case. The only thing I knew was that I had been a child of multiple food sensitivities - what were the chances he was the same? He was tested and sure enough he was off the charts for dairy and grains - all the things the conventional baby books had been telling me to feed him. We overhauled his diet and within about 2 weeks our happy son returned.

Now my children's story of recovery and optimized health is one of an increasing many but there needs to be more. It's no understatement to say we are undergoing the largest human experiment in the history of civilisation. It's us versus our modern environment and the quality of our food as well as how we navigate stress are huge factors. With every generation we are witnessing a rapid decline in health and fertility while at the same time we experience skyrocketing disease. We as a species are running out of time and we are already beginning to witness the devastating impact of manufactured foods with the epidemic of chronic illness affecting all ages.

I do this for every single one of us and all of our future children.

I am eternally grateful for being a part of the NTA family and for all the hard work they do. We are not just practitioners but truly paradigm shifters and I'm so proud to be a part of this rapidly expanding international family.
